Shangita is a globally renowned dancer, teacher and choreographer, a performer who has had sell out performances in more than 45 countries around the world.

To enhance her understanding of movement and greater strength and suppleness, she took up the ancient martial art form of Kalaripayat. Shangita has also been actively involved in the experiment of using dance as a form of therapy for the mentally and physically handicapped.

She has been honored with the titles Natya Kalamani and Nritya Choodamani. She won the BOH Cameronian Arts Award for the best group performance in the year 2006.

Shangita is highly intelligent and gifted, and is an accomplished dancer. Her years in Kalakshetra have added to her repertoire as well as polish and experience; particularly in Abhinaya.

Kalpana Dance Theatre was founded in 1998 by Shangita Namasivayam, graduate of Kalakshetra, protegée and student of two of the greatest and globally renowned cultural icons from the Indian subcontinent, Rukmini Devi Arundale and Chandralekha, with the mission:

Kalpana Dance Theatre has staged some of Malaysia’s most inspiring, creative and impactful dance productions.

Kalpana Dance Theatre strives to be in the forefront of Indian dance consistently performing all over the world while holding performances in Malaysia showcasing dancing greats from other parts of the world.

So impressive is the quality of Kalpana Dance Theatre’s work that a significant affiliation with the Pracheen Kalakendra of Chandigarh, India, was realized. Through Kalpana Dance Theatre, students can now achieve higher levels of technical competence and artistry.
